EMERGENCY Services workers deserve the support and respect of all Queenslanders, Leader of the Opposition John-Paul Langbroek said today.
Mr Langbroek said hundreds of emergency staff and SES volunteers were preparing to face Cyclone Yasi, away from family and friends, and not knowing what dangers and damage they would come across in the next 24 hours.
“Many have already worked long hours dealing with the floods and now they will deal with worst storm to hit Queensland in a generation …these people deserve our highest respect,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Our thoughts and best wishes are with all Emergency Services staff and SES volunteers and the communities now with just hours left before severe winds and rain start to hit.”
Mr Langbroek said without the professionalism and dedication of full-time staff and volunteers, the outlook for potential losses would be far worse.
