Despite having the flu, Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, was off to an early start yesterday morning. Starting out on foot at 6am from Little Yabba Creek at Connondale, Mr Powell hopes the walk reinforced awareness for the need of the completion of the upgrade of the Maleny-Kenilworth Road.

Covering approximately 35km, walkers completed the journey close to 4.30pm at Tesch Park in Maleny, this is the second year that this walk has taken place. The main purpose of the walk was to highlight the need for this dangerous stretch of road to be upgraded; urgently.

"The issue of funding for this deteriorating road is not something that I will give up on. I am committed to seeing this road upgraded and I will make this same walking trip each year until it happens", said Mr Powell .

This year Mr Powell also called for community members and businesses to sponsor his walk; with all money raised going to the Maleny State School, and Conondale State School, Chaplaincy Programs.

"It's great to see this year, we have not only increased community awareness over the need to upgrade this road, but also raised money for a good cause at the same time"' Mr Powell goes on to state "I have been a long time support of Chaplains in our local schools and I saw this as my chance to promote the great work they do for our kids".
