Woodford Show Ball: Promising an Evening to Remember.

Councillor Adrian Raedel handing event organiser
Clint Page a cheque.
After a 14 year hiatus, the Woodford Show Ball promises to return with a big loud BANG! All 232 tickets to the May 28th ball have already sold out!

What is the Woodford Show Ball? A tradition up until 1997, the Show Ball was an annual event that coincided with the Woodford Show. Two categories, Show Princess and Show Queen, encouraged young ladies to put their best foot forward to show society what they're made of. Nominations were accepted by girls between the ages of 13 and 17 in the Show Princess category, whilst Show Queen was open to young Ladies between the age of 18 and 28. The winner was judged on their overall ability to represent the Woodford area.

May 28th will see the first Show Ball in 14 years. However, this time round it is held one month before the actual show rather then the night before. The Ball is a black tie event, with a licensed bar, ushers and waiters to assist diners. This year guest will be treated, amongst other things, to a historical tour and a live band. Contests winners will share in a prize pool of over $1000, much of which has been donated by local businesses.

Michelle Hewitt, quest organiser, says that the girls are achieving so much within themselves already "Their self-esteem and self-confidence grows each week, it's wonderful to see the young ladies take pride in themselves and their community". Entrants have been partcipating in deportment, etiquette, grooming, latin dance and old time dance.

Clint Page, event organiser, is promising a really good night, with people walking away with more then they expected. Mr Pages enthusiasm was only dampened by the fact that the size of the venue restricted ticket sales.

"We could have sold at least 100 more tickets if the venue was bigger," Mr Page said.

Nominations closed on April 1st, with 5 entrants into the Show Queen category and 16 into Show Princess. Entrants come from Woodford and those living in surrounding areas including:
  • Wamuran
  • Bellthorpe
  • Delaney’s Creek
  • Neurum
  • Mt Mee
  • D’Aguilar
  • Campbell’s Pocket
  • Mt Delaney
  • Stony Creek
  • Stanmore

Next years Show Ball is promising to be bigger, and better already. The natural disasters of this year has restricted a few things that were anticipated for this modern inaugural of the Show Ball.

The Show Ball Committee would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the generosity of community businesses, without their donations of time and money the event wouldn’t be possible.
