Industry Award for Stormwater Management

Moreton Bay Regional Council has been recognised for excellence in stormwater management.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the 2011 Stormwater Industry Association of Queensland Awards had identified council as a leader in Excellence in Strategic Planning.

“The awards are an annual event and highlight organisations that have achieved excellence in innovation, development and the management of stormwater projects,” Mayor Sutherland said.

“Stormwater management isn’t something that too many people would give a great deal of thought to, but it is important to the future and sustainability of our region.

“The Excellence in Strategic Planning Award comes off the back of a significant on-going project to address stormwater management.

“It shows in terms of our Total Water Cycle Management Strategy that council is kicking the goals that will help to improve the quality of our local waterways.

“What happens on land has an impact on the water – it’s as simple as that.”

Mayor Sutherland said Stormwater Industry Association’s Excellence in Strategic Planning Award was shared with Unitywater.

“Council and Unitywater have been working in partnership to help balance the demands of development with an imperative to maintain the health of our natural water environments,” the Mayor said.

“It’s an award that demonstrates council’s partnerships to manage stormwater for the future are already paying dividends.”
