State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan, today welcomed news that local schools will benefit from a new Queensland Government rules in respect of safer school zones.
Mr Ryan said the $15 million program would standardise school zone operating times and improve signage at schools around the state.
“School road safety is an important issue, and I am absolutely committed to making sure local children are as safe as possible when they travel to and from school,” said Mr Ryan.
Mr Ryan said the new measures would mean better road safety for school kids. By Easter all south east Queensland school zones would be a standard.
7am – 9am and 2pm – 4pm, except in the rare case where a school has different operating hours.
Signage will also be upgraded at many schools throughout the region.
“By setting standard operating times, we’re getting rid of any possible confusion about times and that means better safety for our children,” Mr Ryan said.
