Police attended Brickworks Road around 4pm and arrested a youth in relation to an alleged stealing matter.
The 16-year-old then allegedly spat in the face of a 35-year-old female Constable as she was being escorted to the police car.
The girl has been charged with one count each of serious assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, obstruct police and unlawfully take goods away.
She will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justices Act.
The officer will undergo disease testing.
