Wyatt Roy Encouraging Christmas for our Troops

Wyatt Roy, Federal Member for Longman is encouraging the local community to share the Christmas cheer with our overseas service men and women.

Mr Roy is coordinating a community care package drive for Australian troops serving overseas.

“Christmas is a special time and most spend it with loved ones. During this holiday season it is important to spare a thought for our thousands of troops who will not be able to spend Christmas with their families and friends.”

“During my visit to Afghanistan earlier this year I witnessed the enormous morale boost that messages from home had for our service men and women.

“To show our community support for the troops this Christmas, I want everyone to consider doing their small part by putting together a small care package. Care packages can be sent to troops serving in the Solomon Islands, East Timor or Afghanistan, and there is also the opportunity to send a package to the Explosive Detection Dogs, as long as a treat for the handler is included!”

“I am collecting packages in my office until 8th December.

“I hope that my office at 260 Morayfield Road will be inundated with care packages to send to our soldiers on the front line.

“Packages can also include a letter of support. A message to the troops at this time of year will let them know that they are in our hearts and minds over this holiday season.

Care packages should be packed in a “BM” size box, which is available from Australia Post for approximately two dollars. Packages can be up to 2kg (cubed), but there is no limit on the number of boxes you can send.

Ideas for items to go into care packages, as well as all the details about how to address the packages, are available on my website, www.wyattroy.com.au/care-packages-for-troops.
