Glass House Mountains National Landscape Campaign On The Right Track

The campaign to have the iconic Glass House Mountains listed on the National Landscapes program continues on the right track.  On the back of the successful delegation to the Minister for Tourism last year, Andrew Powell MP Member for Glass House will be hosting a representative from the National Landscapes Board on Monday 11 April 2011.

“I am really pleased with the progress made so far in this campaign.  We have managed to secure support form many sectors of the community including Australia Zoo, local Council, RDA Sunshine Coast, residents and the local tourism body Sunshine Coast Destination.
“And as a result of last year’s delegation to the Minister for Tourism, we have gained support from Tourism Queensland, “Mr Powell stated.
The National Landscapes program aims to celebrate and promote unique and iconic Australian landscapes to international travellers.
Parks Australia, who administers the program, have contacted Mr Powell and explained that they are in the process of evaluating the National Landscape program.  As a result, they are holding off announcing any more inclusions into the program until 2012.
“In the meantime they are sending a representative to the Coast to meet with stakeholders and interested community members to discuss our campaign and share some of the strategies and processes that are involved in the application and the program in general.
“The two-year hold on new announcements gives us the time to get our submission in top shape, and this visit will certainly keep the ball rolling”, Mr Powell concluded.
A community information session will be held in Maleny on Monday 11 April.  Further information can be obtained by contacting Mr Powell's office on 5435 2013 or by email glass.house@parliament.qld.gov.au.
