The amazing skills of Brisbane's emergency crews will be on display this weekend when they compete to free people from crushed cars in simulated crashes at the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) Road Crash Rescue Challenge at Bribie Island.
Members of the public are invited to watch the teams from Bribie Island, Caboolture, Mt Gravatt, Burpengary, Redlands, Macleay Island and Deception Bay represent Brisbane region rural, auxiliary and urban firefighters for one day of heated competition.
QFRS Assistant Commissioner Brisbane Region, Ian Mitchell said the event enabled emergency service workers to come together to learn, exchange ideas and practice their skills in a competitive environment.
“This competition presents a fantastic opportunity for personnel to demonstrate what they have learnt from their experiences in a controlled environment,” he said.
“This event is open to the public so I urge everyone to come along and catch a glimpse of the amazing lifesaving work firefighters undertake.”
Mr Mitchell said emergency service personnel build their knowledge, skills and experience with each incident they attended.
The team that takes out the regional title this weekend will go on to compete at the State Championships to be held in Mackay on 29th and 30th of April.
