Queensland footy fans can get a free ride with TransLink to the annual rugby league ‘double-header’ at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night (Friday, May 27).
TransLink spokesperson Gemma Rivers said customers with pre-purchased tickets to the games could travel free on Brisbane Transport buses and Queensland Rail trains from midday until the last scheduled service on game day.
“Public transport is an easy way to get to and from the stadium, avoiding traffic congestion, parking restrictions, road closures and the expected large crowd,” Ms Rivers said.
“Public transport has traditionally been a popular option for rugby league fans at Suncorp Stadium.
“The first game (Manly Sea Eagles vs Brisbane Broncos) kicks-off at 7pm with full time about 8.40pm.
“The second game (Canterbury Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Titans) kicks-off at 8.45pm with full time about 10.30pm. Gates open at 4.30pm.
“Bus customers can catch regular Brisbane Transport timetabled bus services or one of the additional shuttle bus services organised to cater for the large number of footy fans.
“Shuttle buses will run from Carindale, Eight Mile Plains, Chermside and The Gap directly to the stadium between 5pm and 6.40pm, plus Makerston Street and Adelaide Street in the Brisbane CBD from 5pm to 7pm.
“After the end of game 1, free shuttle buses will operate to the Brisbane CBD only (Roma Street and Adelaide Street) for one hour.
“After the end of game 2, high-frequency free shuttle buses to Brisbane CBD (Roma Street and Adelaide Street), Carindale, Eight Mile Plains, Chermside and The Gap will operate for an hour.
“Train customers have only a short walk to the stadium from Roma Street or Milton train stations.
“Additional trains will run on the Caboolture, Ipswich/Rosewood, Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Cleveland and Ferny Grove lines, as well as regular timetabled services on all lines.
“I encourage customers to use the journey planner on the TransLink website to plan their journey.”
Free transport is not available on Surfside buses on the Gold Coast.
