SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND

For people in parts of the GOLD COAST CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY, LOGAN CITY, MORETON BAY, IPSWICH CITY, SCENIC RIM and SOMERSET Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:00 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Beaudesert, Boonah, Tallebudgera, Rosevale and the NSW border. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Coolangatta, Canungra, Aratula, Harrisville and Lake Somerset by 3:30 pm and Boonah, Mudgeeraba, Peak Crossing and Mount Mee by 4:00 pm.

Very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

Thunderstorms today have already produced very heavy rainfall of 35mm in 30 minutes at Moogerah Dam at 1:40pm.

Small hail has been reported around Brisbane between 1pm and 2pm.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:00 pm.
