Help Give Kids in Care a Joyful Christmas

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP is urging Queenslanders to dig deep and spread the Christmas spirit to children in care by donating gifts to this year's Child Safety Christmas Tree Appeal.

Mr Ryan said the appeal aims to help give the more than 8000 children in out-of-home care a great festive season.

"By donating a gift, we can brighten Christmas for Queensland's most vulnerable children," Mr Ryan said.

"Any gift considered appropriate for a child in care will be greatly appreciated by children who may be in need of that little bit of extra joy this festive season."

Mr Ryan said Christmas is a time of family celebration and the donated gifts will put big smiles on the faces of children who need it most.

"Children in out-of-home care range in ages from young babies to 17-year-olds so a variety of gifts for all ages is much appreciated," he said.

"Gifts don't have to cost the world as the smallest present can make a child or young person's day on Christmas.

"Gifts like sporting equipment, gift cards for movies or clothes, and books can also help give a child a brighter holiday season."

Mr Ryan said the generous spirit of Queenslanders to help make Christmas extra special for the state's most vulnerable children was obvious due to the success of last year's Christmas Tree Appeal, with Queenslanders donating more than 3000 gifts.

"Queenslanders really dug deep last year and I urge everyone to repeat that generosity," he said.

"Through these kind actions, Queenslanders are helping to build a society that cares for, and values, children and young people."

The Child Safety Christmas Appeal closes for donations on Friday, 16 December.

Donations can be dropped at the Caboolture Child Safety Office at Level 2, 33 King Street Caboolture, or the Office of Mark Ryan MP, State Member for Morayfield, Unit 3, 67 Morayfield Road, Caboolture South.
