Jon Black Appointed Deputy Chair of WSAA

Unitywater Chief Executive Officer Jon Black has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA).

Mr Black said he was delighted to undertake such a significant leadership role in the Australian water industry.

“I am really looking forward to working with WSAA’s new Chair Sue Murphy who is current Chief Executive Officer of the Water Corporation of Western Australia.

“The water industry is facing many challenges and I am particularly looking forward to being part of the new focus on the customer as we strive to achieve greater efficiencies whilst maintaining quality of service.

“I want to play a key role in developing industry best practice so we can attract and nurture the best emerging talent in the field.

“I am therefore also pleased that WSAA has agreed to play a lead role in establishing a nationally recognised skills capability framework. This will enable a common set of job descriptions, enhancing the industry’s access to training and offering clear career progression to its many employees across the nation.

“Our members can expect to see a stronger focus on innovation and skills training,” Mr Black said.

WSAA Executive Director Adam Lovell said he was looking forward to working closely with Sue Murphy and Jon Black as they bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their new roles.

“WSAA will be a key player in the urban water industry future and I believe Sue and Jon will provide strong leadership to our focus on customers and delivering value for money,” Mr Lovell said.

Mr Black said he was also committed to bringing major water industry events to the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions.

“I certainly understand the importance of conferences and events and the vital role they can play in boosting local economies.

“Unitywater recently supported the Australian Water Association 2011 Regional Conference at the Novotel Twin Waters resort where more than 170 water and sewerage experts from across Australia attended.

“Wherever possible I will be advocating the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions as ideal locations for industry events as well as to showcase some of the innovative work Unitywater is undertaking in water supply and sewage treatment,” Mr Black said.
