State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP has announced that the Caboolture Snakes Rugby Union Club will receive a $2,000 Queensland Government “Positive or It’s Pointless” equipment grant for being a good sport.
“The Caboolture Snakes Rugby Union Club will receive this grant simply by signing up to the campaign,” Mr Ryan said.
“This is a great club which fosters a love for sport in a positive environment.
“At the end of the day, sport should be fun for all involved, and children should be able to kick a ball around and enjoy their soccer free from negative behaviour.
“I commend the club for signing up to the Positive or It’s Pointless campaign, which is all about blowing the whistle on poor player and spectator behaviour at junior matches.
“By building a positive culture at all junior clubs, the campaign hopes to replace negative features such as player violence, abuse of referees and the ‘ugly parent’.
“This equipment grant is great news for our local sporting clubs and an opportunity for them to spread the Positive or It’s Pointless message.”
Clubs who sign up to the campaign can receive grants of up to $2,000, depending on the number of club members.
“The Positive or It’s Pointless campaign promotes the principles of integrity, respect and fun to encourage both players and spectators to be good sports in an environment free of harassment or discrimination.”
Five ambassadors, who believe strongly in the campaign, will help deliver the positive message.
• Queensland Reds and Wallabies player Will Genia
• Brisbane Roar’s Shane Stefanutto
• Brisbane Lion’s mid-fielder Luke Power
• Rugby league champion Cameron Smith
• Queensland Firebirds champion Laura Geitz
“They serve as true role models to young sportsmen and women, and represent a united approach in saying if it’s not POSITIVE, it’s POINTLESS,” Mr Ryan said.
