Katter’s Australian Party State Leader, Aidan McLindon, stated that strong polling for the party in The Courier Mail today was due to its stance opposing further asset sales and its call for a coal seam gas moratorium.
“Queenslanders are overwhelmingly against the sale of our state asset and the flawed coal seam gas industry which is wiping out Queensland communities,” said Mr McLindon.
“Therefore, it is no surprise that Katter’s Australian Party has received strong support. Both the other parties have policies on asset sales and coal seam gas that will hurt Queenslanders.”
Mr McLindon added that the polling showed that Katter’s Australian Party was taking votes from both major parties.
“This poll was taken in a very safe Labor seat and now it is up for grabs. Traditional Labor Party supporters are signing up to the Australian Party because it represents workers.”
“Labor has abandoned them on asset sales and they know that Campbell Newman supports further privatisation.”
Mr McLindon also blasted Campbell Newman’s ‘just vote one’ tactic which he said would backfire and help Labor.
“It was made in the interests of Campbell Newman, not for the people of Queensland,” he said.
“He has sent a very clear message to Queenslanders that if the LNP cannot govern, he is quite prepared to hand it back to the Bligh Government.”
