Caboolture West Koalas

Plans for a massive new community development, west of Caboolture, have met a major hurdle just days after the formal announcement by the state government.
It has been discovered that 35.6% of the 6,400ha site, has been mapped as critical koala habitat.
The CEO of the Koala Foundation, Deborah Tabart, said she was totally unaware of the proposed development.
"I'm shocked that the government has signed off on such a major project without any consultation," Ms Tabart said.
Ms Tabart called on developers to publicly disclose where they planned to build the houses and other major infrastructure.
She also wanted to know how the development could go ahead without devastating the koala population.

Two up to be legal on Anzac Day

MBRC Drops $44k in Budget - Is Graffiti Under Control?
A 4OUR investigation has revealed the Moreton Bay Regional Council has transferred $44,000 out of its graffiti budget into the Redcliffe 'Signature Project' (listen to the podcast below).
After being contacted by a Caboolture business owner fed up with graffiti attacks (click here to see video), 4OUR travelled around the Caboolture area and photographed a fraction of the scrawl.

Residents Not Happy with the Narangba Quarry DA
Update: - Narangba residents have welcomed Boral's announcement ruling out a quarry. However, they still remain concerned that a development application (DA) lodged by a previous owner of land now owned by Boral could still be approved.
The Narangba quarry DA has not at this time been withdrawn by the applicant, Marcoola Investments.
This means the DA can still be approved by the Moreton Bay Regional Council, even though the current owner of the land (Boral) wants it withdrawn.

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP has welcomed a submission which
alleviates community concern by effectively ruling out a proposed new quarry in the Narangba West area.
“As local people may be aware, an application for a new quarry in the Narangba West area is currently being considered by the Moreton Bay Regional Council,” Mr Ryan said.
“The application was made by Marcoola Investments Pty Ltd (Marcoola) in 2010. However, the majority of the land that is the subject of the application is now owned by Boral Resources (Qld) Pty Limited (Boral).
“For the last few years, I have been working on a strategy that will help buffer the residential areas of Narangba from the impact of the existing quarry in the Narangba West area and the quarry trucks on local roads.
“So when local people asked me to help them with their campaign in respect of this application, I took steps to raise the concerns of our community directly with Boral.
“Over the last month or so, I have discussed with Boral (on a number of occasions) that there are a large number of people in our community that are worried about the prospects of another quarry in the Narangba West area.”
Following Mr Ryan’s discussions, Boral has now made a formal submission to the Moreton Bay Regional Council which states:
“(that Boral) does not intend to pursue or implement the development proposed by this development application in the event that the application is approved (by the Moreton Bay Regional Council). If the (legislation) so provided, Boral would formally withdraw its consent to the development application being made over its land” (emphasis added).

“On behalf of our community, I take this opportunity to thank Boral for listening and responding to the concerns of local people.
