On Their Way To Making Millions

Four-piece Brisbane band, Millions, has learned only recently that they will be opening this years Splendour in the Grass.

Only a relatively new band, Millions is making their mark on the world. 

Already having played with bands such as The Grates and The Belligerents, they will share the stage with Kanye West, Coldplay, Jebediah and Jane’s Addiction – just to name a few.

Don, Campbell, Steve and James find themselves writing furiously as they prepare a forty-five minute concert for Splendour. This is because they don’t have enough songs! It just proves how new they are. However, that doesn’t matter, as it’s obvious they're liked.

Below is an interview with Campbell, the bassist, with Kristina. He talks about his dog, hair styles and how Millions became so lucky.

Splendour in the Grass - Woodford Queensland

Splendour in the Grass will be hitting our region from 29 to 31 July and this year's event is poised to be a true local celebration.

While it’s being held in our own backyard at Woodford, we’ve worked hard with Splendour organisers to make sure it provides an unforgettable experience for some very lucky local performers.

Council, in partnership with Splendour in the Grass, is running a competition that will see three up-and-coming bands from the Moreton Bay region play the gigs of their lives at this renowned music festival – sharing the same stage with acts such as Coldplay, Kayne West, Jane's Addiction and The Living End.

To enter submit your details by 5.00pm Friday, 24 June 2011.

Successful bands will be announced on this website on Wednesday 13 July 2011.

Children Collide Definitely Aren't Loveless

From the heart of Melbourne, Ryan Caesar, Heath Crawley and John Mackay created a band called Children Collide.

The band released their debut album, The Long Now, back in 2008, earning their song, Farewell Rocketship, a spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 for the year. Many years have passed and the band still makes appearances on the national Australian radio.

Now in 2011, the band has released their most recent single, Loveless, to the airwaves. The oddly created music video shows a clown-faced person getting their shoulder-length hair shaven off. As the song continues his face paint removes. In a somewhat symbolic five minute and six second video, Children Collide shows the audience the change in their music.

After two festival shows in Queensland (River Sessions in Mackay on July 2 and Splendour in the Grass in Woodford on July 30) the band will continue through the rest of Australia for their Loveless tour.

The Grates Are Still Great

The Grates are an energetic two-piece band from Brisbane. After losing their band mate Alana Skyring to the culinary career, Patience Hodgson and John Patterson flew to Brooklyn for some New York change.

Squeals of delight filled the 101.5fm station when the Splendour in the Grass line up was  announced. Ok those squeals may just have come from me, but that didn’t stop the excitement spreading.

Splendour Set To Sparkle Again In Woodford

Festival followers it's time to dig out your gumboots and warm up that singing voice because Splendour in the Grass is returning to Woodford for 2011.

The three day music and arts event will be held at Woodfordia for a second time this year. After injecting millions of dollars into the community last year it is hoped to again pump much needed life into local businesses. Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Adrian Raedel hopes that local businesses will embrace the festival and the financial advantages.

"I hope all the community get behind this event from Eagle Boys Pizza to Clews News, from the Bed and Breakfasts to our new Visitor Information Centre, this is big news," Mr Raedel said.

After a few hiccups last year regarding traffic and noise Mr Raedel has labelled them as only "teething problems" and is certain that things will run a lot smoother this time around.

While Woodfordia is a temporary location and organisers have plans underway to develop land for a permanent Splendor venue near Byron Bay, this announcement will go some way to helping out the financially embattled Australian Folk Federation (owners of Woodfordia) . The organisation is in dire straights and Moreton Bay  Regional Council is currently in talks over purchasing the land (click here for more).

Local Woodford business owner, Janice Morgan, found that last year the event was 'the talk of the town' and hopes that this year it will experience similar crowd numbers.

"I think it's important for the region to attract these sorts of events," Mrs Morgan said.

Splendour in the Grass will be held from July 29-31 at Woodfordia on Woodrow road, Woodford.
