Fatal fire, Beachmere

Police are investigating a fire in which a man has died in Beachmere this morning. 

Initial information suggests shortly after 12am a boat within a Beachmere Road business caught on fire.   

Emergency services extinguished the blaze and located a deceased man inside the boat. 

Investigations into the cause of the blaze and the death are continuing. 

There is no further information available at this time.

House Fire, Margate

Update: Margate – house fire 

Emergency services attended a house fire on Albert St, Margate shortly before 8pm last night. On arrival of fire crews, the low set timber dwelling was well-alight. All occupants were accounted for and no one was injured. Fire investigators will attend the scene today.

Rural Fire Brigades welcome new equipment

Several Brisbane Rural Fire Brigades will on Wednesday share in $21,000 worth of new equipment as a result of an ongoing partnership with the Queensland Rural Fire Service (QFRS) and Energex. 

A total of 11 brigades will receive essential items such as transportable marquees, portable fridges, generators and lighting tower kits, eskies and portable pumps. 

The brigades receiving equipment are Narangba, Elimbah, Villeneuve Neurum, Delaneys Creek, Samford, Mount Nebo, Hazeldean, Ocean View, Stoney Creek, Samsonvale and Macleay Island. 

The handover is part of a $75,000 pledge by Energex to benefit 38 Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigades throughout Brisbane and the South East.

Grass fire - Murrumba Downs

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) has received multiple triple zero calls about a fire burning off Masjaken Court at Murrumba Downs. 

Caboolture - grassfire

Seven fire crews have contained a large grass fire burning in the vicinity of Pettigrew Street, Caboolture. This fire which has burnt approximately 150 hectares of land broke out around 3.10pm. 

Firefighters will remain on scene for sometime conducting backburning operations. There is no immediate threat to property.

Wamuran - bushfire

Nine fire crews have contained a large area of grass and bush burning in the vicinity of R Williams Road, Wamuran. This fire broke out around 10.15am. 

Firefighters will remain on scene for sometime conducting backburning operations. There is no immediate threat to property.

Campfire and BBQ safety these holidays

Enjoying a campfire or barbecue with the family during the school holiday break can be fun, but residents should be mindful of the dangers. 

To ensure Queensland families have an enjoyable and safe holiday period, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) is reminding people campfires and barbecue equipment can cause serious injury. 

QFRS Brisbane Region Assistant Commissioner Ian Mitchell said it was important residents did not drop the ball with safety when venturing out to camp or have a barbecue these school holidays.

Forecasts of very high fire danger across large parts of Queensland over the coming days have prompted the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) to ask residents to be cautious and vigilant.

Female Firefighters Sizzle in Calendar Fundraiser

The female firefighters who usually sweat it out during fire and rescue operations have again glammed-up for a calendar shoot in the name of charity. 

Twelve female firefighters from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) have teamed up for the 2012 Female Firefighters Calendar to raise funds for the Queensland Cancer Council for breast cancer research. 

QFRS Acting State Community Safety Development Manager and calendar organiser, Michelle Young said the firefighters were excited to be able to produce a calendar again this year. 

“After the overwhelming success of our previous calendars we are back to bare it all again,” Ms Young said. 

“We hope that everyone will buy a Female Firefighters Calendar to generate awareness and raise much needed funds for Pink Ribbon Day, in support of all Queenslanders touched by breast cancer.” 

All of the calendar girls are full-time firefighters and work in stations across the state, from Gladstone and Toowoomba, to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. 

The Female Firefighters Calendar 2012 will be available for $10 each from Thursday 11 August at the Brisbane RNA Show.

Woodford - Smoke from controlled burns

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) has been receiving a large number of Triple Zero (000) calls in relation to smoke in Woodford and surrounding areas. 

Forestry Plantations Queensland are conducting a number of controlled burns west of the Glasshouse Mountains and Beerburrum at the present time. These burns are well monitored and pose no threat to homes or properties. 

The smoke from these burn off's is travelling in a west south westerly direction towards Woodford and surrounding areas. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors if affected by smoke in their local area.

Major Bushfire Exercise Held Ahead of Fire Season

Bribie Island and Beerburrum State Forest will transform into a hub of activity as firefighters finalise preparations for the upcoming bushfire season. 

On Thursday July 28, weather permitting, almost 800 hectares of Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) and Moreton Bay Regional Council land on Bribie Island and up to 1000 hectares of DERM land and Forestry Plantations Queensland (FPQ) Pty Ltd plantation in the Beerburrum-Woodford area will be set alight in a large-scale hazard reduction burn.

Forecasts of high fire danger over the coming days have prompted the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service to ask residents to be cautious and vigilant as the state moves into bushfire season. 

High fire danger ratings around Brisbane, south west and northern Queensland are expected from today until Friday.

With many Queenslanders firing up the traditional Aussie barbecue during these school holidays, emergency services are reminding people that with fire comes responsibility. 

House Fire - Woodford

Eight Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) crews attended a low set house on fire at Old Cove Rd, Woodford around 12.30pm. On arrival, smoke was issuing from the rear of the property. 

The fire was extinguished by 1.30pm. All persons were accounted for and no injuries were reported. Fire investigators will work to determine the cause of the blaze.
