Council React To Being Slammed Over Lack Of Flooding Informaion
Moreton Bay Regional Council will use social media to inform residents during emergency events, in the hope of avoiding a repeat of the confusion experienced during this month’s floods.
Last Tuesday councillors unanimously passed a motion allowing Council to use websites such as Facebook and Twitter to pass on emergency information to locals – one week after floodwaters battered the region. (Click here to read more)

Storm and Fire Season
Be 'Storm Safe'
Take some simple steps to protect your family and your home:
- Prepare a family emergency plan
- Identify a safe place to evacuate
- Compile a list of emergency phone numbers
- Decide how to look after your pets
- Prepare an emergency and evacuation kit
- Prepare your home to minimise damage
- Clean gutters and downpipes to drain water quickly
- Secure loose items around the house and garden (eg. Garden Furniture)
- Trim trees and remove overhanging branches
- Shelter vehicles from storms or cover with a heavy blanket and park away from trees, power lines and waterways
- Assemble an emergency kit
- A portable radio and torch with spare batteries
- First Aid Kit
- Candles and waterproof matches
- Waterproof bag and valuables
- Important papers including emergency contact numbers
- Copies of your home emergency plan
- In case of evacuation:
- A good supply of required medications
- Any special requirements for babies, the disabled, infirm or elderly
- Strong shoes
- Food and drinking water
