on winning the People’s Choice award at the

recent Youth Art Awards.

A young Morayfield artist whose drawing has a photographic quality, has taken out the People’s Choice award at the Moreton Bay Regional Council organised Youth Art Awards. 

Fourteen-year-old Natasha Maciejewski, who attends year nine at the Australian Christian College at Caboolture, entered a pencil drawing of a pair of Rosellas, beating more than 350 other exhibits as the people’s favourite. 

Division 12 Councillor Adrian Raedel, congratulated Natasha, who lives in his division, on her win. 

“Natasha is one to watch. She took up drawing when she was 11 and she has already claimed a few art prizes and is an exhibiting junior member of the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society Incorporated,” he said. 

As People’s Choice winner Natasha has picked up a trophy, certificate and a timber box for her art materials. Her Rosella picture also won her second place in the 2D Year 8 to 10 section of the Youth Art Awards. 

The annual Youth Art Awards this year attracted more than 50 schools with students vying for a share of more than $4000 in prizes.

MBRC Explores Bat Permit

Moreton Bay Regional Council is working with the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) on the future of a flying fox colony near the Burpengary Equestrian Centre. 

Division 12 councillor, Adrian Raedel, said council was in discussion with DERM about the prospect of securing a mitigation permit for the relocation of the flying fox roost.

Adrian Raedel Interview On Morning Mag - Carbon Tax

Moreton Bay Regional Council has declared it cannot support the Federal Government’s proposed carbon tax if it drives up rates for residents and local businesses.

Division 12 councillor Adrian Raedel moved that council oppose the carbon tax but also signal its willingness to work with the Federal and State Governments on alternative strategies to reduce carbon emissions.

“While Moreton Bay Regional Council has resolved to oppose the carbon tax, we are prepared to look at alternative mechanisms to reduce carbon emissions that don’t involve a new tax on our residents and businesses,” Cr Raedel said.

“I’m also keen to see the Local Government Association of Queensland work with the Moreton Bay Region on this.

”That’s why I'm recommending the carbon tax is a major topic for discussion at next month’s LGAQ conference, only then can we begin to get a clear understanding of the financial impost it will have on councils right across the state.

“I’ll admit I’m very worried about the possible impact of a carbon tax on the ratepayers and residents of this region.

“The motion I put to council today also triggers a thorough review of the potential cost of a carbon tax to Moreton Bay Regional Council and its effect on rates.”

Footy Lights Up at Woodford

Moreton Bay Regional Council is investing more than $284,000 to light up the rugby league fields at the Woodford Showgrounds. 

Division 12 councillor, Adrian Raedel, said a contractor had been appointed to supply and erect new field lighting and was expected to be on the job in coming weeks.

Endangered wildlife will win through an agreement that protects an 11-hectare slice of open forest at Rocksberg, near Caboolture.

Moreton Bay Regional Council 's Division 12 councillor, Adrian Raedel said the legally binding permanent Voluntary Conservation Agreement (VCA), between council and the land’s owners James and Diana Caldwell, would ensure the future conservation of the ecologically significant property.
