ENERGEX Delivers Promised Upgrade to Redcliffe Electricity Network

Redcliffe Hospital, surrounding businesses and residents, are set to benefit from a soon to be completed $570,000 urgent upgrade by Energex to the local electricity network.

Finishing at the end of next week, the Energex project which commenced in March, is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply to the hospital and over 360 local homes and businesses. A majority of the works will occur at the Anzac Avenue and Silvyn Street intersection, along Silvyn Street and Sheehan Street.

A key feature of this upgrade is the redirection of an, underground, 11 000 volt feeder solely to Redcliffe Hospital. In the past, when the Redcfliffe Peninsula experienced power outages the hospital was significantly affected and had to rely solely on emergency generators until power was restored or redirected. With the feeder solely supplying the hospital, there is expected to be far less interruptions to the power supply. The remaining power grid on the Redcliffe peninsula is now serviced by an additional feeder.

In a recent press release ENERGEX Asset Manager for Metro North, Tim Hart, said upgrading the electrical network servicing the Redcliffe Hospital was necessary to support the hospital’s current redevelopment and meet rising energy demands.

“Energy use has increased by nearly 60 per cent in the last decade which has put pressure on the area’s electrical supply, so it’s vital that we upgrade the network to ensure a reliable power supply in the future,” Mr Hart said. “ENERGEX has a strong focus on undergrounding new electricity works to critical infrastructure where practical as there is considerably less chance for power supply to be impacted by events like storms.”

Mr Hart confirmed that all precautions have been taken to minimise disruption to Redcliffe Hospital and thanked local residents for their patience during construction.

Kath Ryan, Energex representative, confirmed that the project is expected to be completed by the end next with all networks re-configured and re-energised.
