State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, has welcomed news that a number of bus stops in Caboolture, Burpengary and Narangba have undergone changes in the past few weeks.
Minister for Transport Annastacia Palaszczuk said the upgrades were part of a $1.5m project designed to improve accessibility for disabled and disadvantaged users.
“To make it easier to catch public transport, bus stops should be accessible to all members of the community by complying with disability legislation and standards,” said Ms Palaszczuk.
“For bus stops this typically involves installing a concrete slab and tactile ground surface indicators.
“Improvements to bus stops are collectively identified in conjunction with local governments and a prioritisation process is used to identify bus stops for upgrade.”
All works carried out complied with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (DDA) and Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport Act 2001 (Cth) (DSAPT).
State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP said “I welcome news that all non-shelter bus stops in the region were audited for compliance with current disability access standards.”
“As part of this audit, I understand that some stops were prioritised for immediate disability access upgrades.
“This is great news for our community and great news for those who use our local bus services.”
TransLink’s Bus Stop DDA Program is working to meet DSAPT compliance targets with 100% compliance by December 2022.
“There are over 13,000 bus stops on the TransLink network so it is a big task,” Minister Palaszczuk said.
”The upgrades have improved passenger access across the network and help meet our objective of making travel easy for all members of the community.”
