Sewage spill at Scarborough

Unitywater is attending to a sewage spill at Jamieson Park, Scarborough, which occurred due to the malfunction of an alarm system, which failed to alert Unitywater of an issue with a sewage pump station.

The incident was discovered by a Unitywater staff member doing routine maintenance on-site at 11.47pm today, and barricades and signage are being erected around the affected area.

The sewage spill has been stopped and Unitywater crews are working on correcting the cause of the fault as soon as possible.

DERM has been notified and Unitywater will disinfect the affected area and then conduct ongoing testing to check the condition of the site.

To ensure public and environmental health and safety, signs will remain in place until disinfection is complete and test results are satisfactory.

Unitywater thanks residents for their patience while it responds to this unforseen incident.
