Moreton Bay Regional Council is investing more than $284,000 to light up the rugby league fields at the Woodford Showgrounds.
Division 12 councillor, Adrian Raedel, said a contractor had been appointed to supply and erect new field lighting and was expected to be on the job in coming weeks.
“The addition of new lighting marks another milestone for league at the Woodford Showgrounds and the Stanley River Junior Rugby League Club,” Cr Raedel said.
“Six high powered lights are about to be installed across the two fields to light up local footy at Woodford.
“Council’s $284,000 investment means the club will be able to hit the paddock day and night for practice as well as matches.
“The new infrastructure replaces older lighting that doesn't meet Australian Standards or the needs of the club's training schedule.
“It really is game on for the Stanley River juniors.”
Cr Raedel said Energex had recently installed a pad mounted transformer on site to power the new lights with council also upgrading the showgrounds’ electrical switchboard.
“I can't wait to see the team under lights on their home turf,” Cr Raedel said.
“It's a winner for footy at Woodford and part of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s continuing commitment to local sport.”
