A total of 6,700 trees were planted at sites throughout Moreton Bay region when residents gave up their Sunday morning for National Tree Day on July 31.
Division 12 councillor Adrian Raedel said the council-organised Morayfield planting featured SBS television’s gardening guru Costa Georgiadis as a special guest and was supported by local business Martin Jonkers Toyota and the Narangba Guides.
“There were about 130 volunteers who helped us plant 2,000 trees at Nairn Road Park ,” Cr Raedel said.
“Costa’s enthusiasm and advice proved popular with residents and the park’s regeneration took a step in the right direction through Sunday’s effort.”
Division 11 Councillor Bob Millar said council’s other major tree planting event, at Samford Valley , had added 2,900 trees to the Undambi Rotary Reserve.
“About 90 hard-working volunteers helped us add to the work that is being carried out by the local Bushcare group to regenerate and restore endangered rainforest on the banks of the Upper South Pine River ,” he said.
Both the Morayfield and Samford Valley tree plantings wrapped up with a free barbecue for those participating.
